“I Have Called You By Name”
In a world full of notifications, comparison traps, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy to feel like just another username or face in the crowd. But here’s the game-changer: God doesn’t scroll past you. He doesn’t tag you with labels like “failure,” “not enough,” or “still figuring it out.” He stops, looks right at you, and calls you by “your actual name”—because you’re His.
Isaiah 43:1 (NLT)
“But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
‘Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.’”
This isn’t some ancient statement that died in the past—it’s God speaking straight to people who felt lost and overwhelmed, just like we do on tough days. He ransomed you (paid the full price through Jesus) so you could belong to Him—not because you’ve earned it, but because of His grace. That same grace keeps working in you today: justifying you completely through faith, then growing you step by step into someone who reflects His love and character more each day.
Think about Mary Magdalene’s story: She was broken, carrying heavy shame, convinced her past defined her forever. But Jesus stepped in—no lectures, no conditions—just deliverance and a personal call: “Mary.” One word from Him changed everything. She went from hiding in darkness to walking closely with Jesus, even becoming one of the first witnesses to the resurrection. That’s the kind of turnaround God offers us—not a quick fix, but real freedom and purpose as we grow in Him.
Take a second in the middle of your day—maybe during your commute, coffee break, or while scrolling—and let this hit home:
– God sees the real you—the late-night worries, the temptations you fight, the areas where growth feels slow—and still says, “You are mine.”
– He doesn’t wait for you to level up spiritually before calling your name. His grace meets you right in the mess and empowers real change through the Holy Spirit.
– Remember those moments when God got personal? Maybe a verse that jumped off the page during your quiet time, a nudge during prayer, or peace that came out of nowhere in a stressful week. That’s Him reminding you: “I’m right here, and you’re not alone in this growth journey.”
Scripture is full of these personal calls:
– God called Moses out of his failures and fear.
– He called young Samuel in the stillness of the night.
– Jesus called everyday people—impulsive Peter, skeptical Thomas, overlooked women—and turned them into world-changers through relationship and the Spirit’s power. In fact, no one he chose was anything amazing on their own. Just real struggling people like you and me.
Your story is part of that same pattern. God’s call is personal, ongoing, and loaded with grace—helping you overcome sin’s pull, rest in His Sabbath truth, and live ready for His return.
– What’s one area right now where you’re feeling unseen or stuck? How does hearing “Do not be afraid… you are mine” shift your perspective?
– What old label or identity (from your past, social media, or self-doubt) is God inviting you to drop so you can step more fully into who He says you are?
– When has God spoken to you personally lately—through His Word, a quiet moment, or life circumstances? How can you tune in more this week amid all the noise?
